
Firefighters continued to battle a major bushfire on Fraser Island on Monday, December 7, as the blaze threatened the small tourist town of Happy Valley. Queensland’s Fire and Emergency Services issued evacuation warnings for the area surrounding Happy Valley as the fire approached the tourist destination. According to local media reports, the warnings were downgraded on Tuesday, December 8, as conditions eased. There were reportedly 24 water bombers engaged in firefighting efforts on Monday.
